Rich Aronstein

A music executive for over 35 years, Rich thought about creating a really cool, hip music series for nightclubs and theaters and brought the idea to Phil Lipof in the hopes he would host it and co-produce it. An Emmy Award News Anchor, journalist and friend, he seemed a perfect fit. And so “Rock Talk: Conversations With….” was born in 2010.

A producer of over 100 AIDS benefits during the late 80’s and early 90’s, Rich is currently a theatrical manager and representative of Broadway, TV and Jazz artists In Concert, including Tony Winner, TV and film star Christine Ebersole, “The Brady Bunch’s” Florence Henderson, “ER’s” Gloria Reuben, “Dancing With The Stars’ “Mark Ballas, “Jersey Boys’ ” Jarrod Spector, Tony Award Winner and Grammy Nominee Betty Buckley and many others.

His initial business roots were based in advertising and music production, serving as V.P. Of Talent and Business at a New York music production company as well as Music Business Manager at one of the largest and most respected ad agencies in the country, Grey Advertising.

He has been a National Record Promoter, working for famed Record Executive Florence Greenberg (Scepter Records, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, BJ Thomas), a music critic and a record producer in earlier incarnations of his life. In recent years, he brought Liza Minnelli to Guild Hall in East Hampton, produced multiple concert tours starring original RENT co-stars Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp and continues to book hundreds of shows a year at concert halls, theaters and nightclubs across the country.

Phil Lipof

At 18, Phil Lipof taught himself to play the guitar, so he could jam on every Springsteen song ever written! Along with the Boss, Phil loves The Blues, Jazz, Grunge, Alternative, Metal, even Glam Rock! Most of all, Phil loves finding new music and cutting edge artists before they hit the radio. His passion for all music and song writing really shines through, when he is on stage hosting Rock Talk. For Phil, it’s simply not enough to just love a lyric, he has to find out why it was written.

Phil is truly in his element when he is talking with music legends. He has interviewed Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, Stevie Nicks, Meatloaf, Steve Van Zandt, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and so many others.

One of Phil’s all time favorite moments, was his interview with the legendary Les Paul, shortly before his death. In a back room, at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC, Phil and Les talked for nearly an hour. Les opened up about his groundbreaking inventions, his life and even his thoughts about death. Eight months later, Les Paul died. It was a night Phil will never forget.

Phil began his broadcasting career in Idaho Falls, Idaho. From there, he anchored the news in Kingston, NY, Miami, Boston and now in NYC at WABC, Channel 7.

Throughout his career in T.V News, Phil has had exclusive interviews with celebrities and politicians alike. He traveled overseas to Israel, Germany and France in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, for a series on terrorism. Here at home, Phil spent a week on the Gulf Coast, sleeping in his car, covering Hurricane Katrina. In Miami, Phil had several exclusive interviews with O.J Simpson and covered the Elian Gonzalez conflict from beginning to end.  From J.F.K Junior’s plane crash, to the Red Sox reversing the curse in 2004!

In 2001, Phil married his co-anchor, Juli (long story). They have two beautiful children together, Daniella and Dylan. Daniella loves to play “Sweet Child of Mine,” on the guitar. Dylan says “drums are my life!” Yes Dad is super proud!
